Hunter safety education card

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection requires Hunter Education for all first-time firearms hunters. Students 10 to 15 years of age are issued a free youth license, which includes a pheasant stamp, upon completion of the course. While hunting, youths ages 10 to 13 must be accompanied by a properly licensed adult 21 years of age or older. If you lose your hunting or trapping license and had never taken a hunter education course, you must also take one of these courses.

The purpose of hunter education is to develop knowledge, skills, and behaviors necessary to become safe, responsible hunters.

Typically, students meet these needs by attending a traditional, instructor led course including classroom lectures and field/range experiences. Is there a minimum age to take this online education course?

A license is required to hunt or trap in New Jersey and a person must be a minimum of 10 years of age to have one issued.

Is my Hunter Education Certificate good in other states?

Every U.S. state that demands a Hunter Education Certificate will accept Hunter Education Certificates from other states that conform to IHEA requirements as well.

You should follow your safety course in the State where you are resident.

Does the Hunter Card expire?

No. It is good for life.
