All you need to know about Broadheads
Broadheads are specialized arrow points featuring multiple razor-sharp steel blades, designed
primarily for big game hunting. Due to their extreme cutting ability, broadheads require
careful handling for safety and must be maintained at razor-sharp levels. They come in
various designs to suit specific hunting needs and preferences.
Fixed blade broadheads
Fixed blade broadheads are a classic choice in archery hunting. Often directly glued to arrow
shafts in traditional setups, they offer maximum cutting efficiency, especially with lower draw
weight bows. Their simple, durable design with no moving parts provides reliable flight
characteristics and excellent penetration on game animals, though blades are not replaceable.
Removable blade broadheads
Removable blade broadheads feature a central ferrule (head) with grooves that securely hold
replaceable blades. This design allows hunters to replace individual blades when damaged or
dulled, offering a cost-effective and customizable solution. By enabling blade replacement
without discarding the entire broadhead. This system extends the broadhead's lifespan while
maintaining consistent weight and balance.
Mechanical or expandable blade broadheads
Mechanical or expandable blade broadheads stay closed during flight and open up when they hit the target. This design offers improved accuracy and flight stability due to its smooth shape and smaller size. Upon impact, the blades expand to create larger wound channels. These broadheads often allow for blade replacement or adjustment, providing versatility for hunters. They are only recommended for bows with a draw weight of 50 pounds and greater.
