Understanding in the round, green, and fully prepared pelts

Trappers should be aware that pelts can be sold in various states of preparation, which affects their market value.

In the round

In the round refers to pelts that are sold as whole, unskinned animals. This is the least processed option and typically yields the lowest price.

Green

Green pelts have been skinned but not further processed. They still contain excess fat and tissue, which have not been removed through fleshing, and they have not been stretched or dried.

Fully prepared

Fully prepared pelts have undergone all necessary steps: they have been skinned, fleshed, stretched, and dried. These pelts generally command higher prices because they are ready for immediate use.

Preparing pelts requires time and skill. The more effort a trapper invests in preparing a pelt, the higher the potential return. However, this also means dedicating more time to each individual pelt. Trappers must weigh whether the additional preparation time is worth the increased profit or if they prefer to sell pelts with less processing.
