Setting and releasing a bodygrip trap
Setting a bodygrip trap also requires careful attention to safety and proper technique.
1. Always wear heavy gloves for protection.
2. Compress the single-spring traps using your hands for small traps.
3. On double-spring traps, begin by compressing the springs on both sides of the trap using a specialized trap setter tool.
4. Secure the safety catch or clip across the jaws to prevent accidental closure.
5. While maintaining pressure on the springs, grip the opposing jaws and bring them together.
6. Nest the dog into the trigger notch, ensuring it's properly seated.
7. Double-check that the safety device is still in place across the jaws.
8. Hold the trap by the ends of the springs, never by the jaws or trigger.
9. Position the trap in the desired location, making sure it's stable and level.
10. Only when you're ready to set the trap, carefully remove the safety device.
Retreat from the area, being mindful of your surroundings. Remember, bodygrip traps are powerful and can be dangerous if mishandled. Always prioritize safety. A bodygrip trap should be released by reversing the setting process, keeping fingers and hands outside the jaw openings.
